Course Description

The Social, Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties course has been written for everyone who is interested in social, emotional and behavioural difficulties within education. In particular, this could be those working in education or parents with children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, or other interested parties.

The programme of study is designed to provide the learner with underpinning knowledge in the subject area of child development. The course is divided into seven units, each concentrating on an important aspect of the social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in education.

The Ofsted review of SEN and disability (Ofsted, 2010) highlighted that schools classify a wide range of pupils as having SEN. These findings encompassed those whose needs could be met through good quality teaching to those with complex and severe needs requiring significant additional support.

Further investigation of a range of schools by Ofsted found that many children not assessed as having special needs acted no differently from those assessed as having SEN. This course aims to provide learners with the necessary skills to identify children with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties and how to provide support to these children.

To be awarded the Certificate in Social, Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties, learners are required to successfully complete all seven modules.

Modules

Module 1 - What are Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties?
Module 2 - Exploring the issues
Module 3 - Understanding Misbehaviour
Module 4 - SEBD Strategies, Interventions and Approaches
Module 5 - Direct and indirect bullying behaviours
Module 6 - Improving Classroom achievement
Module 7 - Issues for the Education of Pupils Identified as having ADHD

Previous Knowledge Required

The good news is that no previous knowledge or understanding is needed to study the Social, Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties course. This course is openly available to those who are looking to improve their understanding of the different types of behavioural difficulties and are wanting to study from the comfort of their own home. You can enrol onto the Social, Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties course at any time of year and can study at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration and receive full tutor support.

Although there is no requirement of previous knowledge, learners may wish to study this course alongside a related course such as Special Educational Needs as it will improve the learners overall understanding of this area and it will also increase an individual’s continuous professional development.

Assessment

Learners are required to complete a tutor marked assignment at the end of each module. This assignment will test the learners knowledge on the specific information covered in each module and will require the learner to show their understanding of Social, Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties.

Upon successful completion of the 7 modules, learners will receive their Certificate in Social, Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties from the awarding organisation ABC Awards.

Awarding Organisation

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the details of all the modules the learner has completed as part of the course).

The course itself has been designed by NCC Resources Limited to meet specific learners’ and/or employers’ requirements which cannot be satisfied through current regulated qualifications. ABC Awards’ endorsement involves robust and rigorous quality audits by external auditors to ensure quality is continually met. A review of courses is carried out as part of the endorsement process.
