Counselling Diploma overview

This online Counselling Diploma course will introduce you to important counselling skills. These skills can be used every day, in the work setting or in preparation for one-to-one counselling sessions.

Studying our counselling courses from home will provide you with the skills, principles and ethical qualities needed to become a competent counsellor.

This diploma course will;

  • Begin the process of developing good practice in a counselling setting, as well as in the relationship between counsellor and client
  • Examine the diverse ethics and moral issues within the counselling process
  • Identify the different approaches in counselling
  • Emphasise the importance of reflection, self-development, and self-awareness as a practitioner

Developing an engaging relationship with a client is essential for the counselling process to have positive outcomes. A client who is overdependent on their counsellor is not being offered any solutions to their issues or problems.

Counsellors need to be resilient, yet engaging and proactive. You will be empathetic but not sympathetic. As a counsellor, you will also learn the skill of reflection, both of your own practice, how the counselling sessions are progressing and when they need to end.

The four modules that comprise the Counselling Diploma examine in detail the different helping skills, from advice-giving to counselling. It also looks at how to challenge without confronting and moving the client on. It also covers the necessity of a counsellor looking after their own wellbeing.

    Good course and support

    NCC offered the course I wanted, and while that has lived up to my expectations what I have found really useful is the support. There is always someone to email or talk to on live chats for any question and you get answers immediately. For an online course I've never felt on my own or struggled in silence. Highly recommended.

    Raised my confidence

    I found the course very useful as I am currently working as a Listening Volunteer. The Tutor gave me useful feedback, which raised my confidence and made me aspire to future learning, training and development possibilities. I prefer distance learning to attending a class. The great benefit is that it can fit into the time I had available. I would certainly do another course.
