This course supports care workers by identifying what they can and cannot do, gives advice as to how they can remain safe, keep service users safe and act within organisational, local and national procedures. This course will appeal to staff from a variety of social care settings. Staff will be supporting adults who display behaviours considered to challenge, in settings ranging from residential care, respite care, day services, educational provision and the voluntary sector.

This course will help staff to improve the lives of people who display challenging behaviour as it is concerned with how staff can support service users to replace the behaviours with positive actions. The Challenging Behaviour (Elderly) course supports care workers by identifying what they can and cannot do, gives advice as to how they can remain safe, keep service users safe and act within organisational, local and national procedures.

This course will appeal to staff from a variety of social care settings. Staff will be supporting adults who display behaviours considered to challenge, in settings ranging from residential care, respite care, day services, educational provision and the voluntary sector.

The programme is at Level 2, the equivalent of GCSE or ‘O’ Level. This programme is divided into 10 modules, each covering a different aspect of the challenging behaviour in the elderly.

There is an activities booklet containing the activities a learner will need to successfully pass the course. These are marked by a tutor, who will give the student written feedback on assessments along with support and guidance.
Each module of the Challenging Behaviour (Elderly) programme begins with an introduction and states the learning outcomes for the module.

Learning outcomes are statements explaining what the student will understand or be able to do by the time they have finished studying each module. The assessment questions are closely linked to the learning outcomes.

Students can check whether they have met each learning outcome by successfully completing the associated assessment questions.

The programme is openly available to anyone wishing to learn more about Challenging Behaviour (Elderly) and would like to take part in a highly rewarding home study course. Students have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue learning at their own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with full tutor support.

Assessment

The Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards is gained by successfully completing a series of assignments. Your personal tutor will review, mark and provide you with feedback on your work.

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course).
