Course Description

This Principles of Safe Handling of Medicines has been written for everyone who is involved in the care sector and is aimed to give all staff, supervisors and managers the essential knowledge needed to offer the very best professional approach to the managing and safe handling of medicines. 

This course aims to provide the student with a thorough understanding of the principles and practices of working with medicines. On completion of the programme an individual will be familiar with the correct procedures for the administering, handling and disposal of medicines.

The programme of study is designed to complement your practical work, as it will help you to underpin your practice with theoretical knowledge.  It will also give you the opportunity to look at parts of the job you may not currently be involved with.

The programme is divided into four core units, each concentrating on an important aspect of the managing and safe handling of medicines.

Module 2: Requirements for the supply, storage and disposal of medication
Module 3: Requirements for the safe administration of medication
Module 4: Keeping records and understanding the audit processes for medication administration and storage

Previous Knowledge

The good news is that no prior learning knowledge or experience is essential to take this course. This course is openly available to anyone wishing to learn more about the safe handling of medicines and would like to take part in a highly rewarding home study course. You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with full tutor support.

Assessment

Completing a series of tutor marked assignments together with an end of course multi-choice questionnaire will lead you to the highly acclaimed ABC Awards Principles of Safe Handling of Medicines.

Awarding Organisation

At the end of this course successful learners will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement by ABC Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the details all of the units you have completed as part of your course).
