Congratulations to the Conservative party, who won a majority of 331 seats in the general election. They are now the party with the most seats in the Commons and will form a government.

Out of the 650, they gained 51% of the seats available, and achieved 36.9% of the vote share. To see why there is such a difference in the two percentages, please see our previous blog.

Also today, it was announced that the leaders of three of the losing parties had resigned. Nick Clegg, of the Liberal Democrats, Ed Miliband of the Labour Party and Nigel Farage of UKIP all declared their resignation within 52 minutes of each other.
