Today we are celebrating Christmas Jumper Day in the NCC office!

Christmas Jumper Day is celebrated each year to support the Charity Save the Children. This year, in collaboration with ITV’s Text Santa campaign, Save the Children are teaming up with Macmillan Cancer Support and Make-A-Wish® UK to raise as much money as possible over the festive period!

What is Christmas Jumper Day?
Christmas Jumper day is exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a day where you can raise awareness and money for charity while getting into the festive spirit by wearing your best, or worst Christmas Jumper. Traditional Christmas Knits are always a popular choice however we have seen more and more elaborate jumpers in the last few years ranging from homemade ensembles, LED lights to giant stuffed turkeys! Whichever way you choose to adorn yourself, it’s always fun to get involved!

Who are Save the Children?
Save the children are a charity that operate internationally. Quite simply they help save children’s lives.
Save the Children can trace their roots all the way back to the 20th century where in 1919 two sisters, Eglantyne Jebb and Dorothy Buxton campaigned for children’s rights, specifically those suffering from the effects of the First World War.
Throughout the 20th Save the Children were instrumental in providing support for children following a number of events such as the Second World War, the Korean War and the Ethiopian Famine.
In the modern day, Save the Children work in a number of areas helping to provide education, healthcare, food and housing to children across the globe. In 2014 they estimate that they helped 17.4 million children. The money raised from Christmas Jumper day goes to help children across the world who are suffering in poverty.

What is Text Santa?
The Text Santa campaign was set up in 2011 to support families in the UK and abroad who are suffering from life threating conditions by providing support, medical care and granting wishes to children.
Since 2011 more than £21 million has been raised supporting a number of charities and helping thousands of children and their families.
The aim is simple, people can text the word SANTA to 70760 to donate £5 to the charity. This is then split between the three charities, Save the Children, Macmillan Cancer Support and Make-A-Wish® UK. 100% of all donations will go to these charities which will be used in the vital work that each charity undertakes.

This year, as with years past the NCC office are participating in Christmas Jumper Day to help raise funds and awareness! We have a competition for the most interesting jumper in the office and are hoping to raise a bit of festive cheer to all our learners with our swanky sweaters!

Our winner for the most interesting Jumper is one of our course advisors, Kelley. Her Elf Ensemble was chosen as the best effort from the whole office!

Kelley with her prize!
