Course Description

If you have ever wondered why people do the things they do, then the Psychology course is for you!

Psychology is the study of mind and behaviour and so in this course you will discover how psychologists have come a long way in understanding human behaviour and the mental processes that underlie our actions. In this Psychology course, you will discover: How scientists have studied the mind, brain and behaviour How our understanding of the world develops as we grow up How much we are influenced by other people How our thoughts and actions are related to brain activity How memory works, why we forget, and how to improve your memory How psychologists explain personality and intelligence How psychology can be applied in the real world.

The Psychology course is divided into twelve modules. After introducing you to the main scientific approaches in psychology (module 1), we guide you through the core areas of developmental psychology (modules 2 and 3), social psychology (modules 4 and 5), biological psychology (modules 6 and 7), cognitive psychology (modules 8 and 9) and individual differences (modules 10 and 11). We conclude the course with a look at how these aspects of psychology can help you understand your own behaviour better as well as how they can be applied in a professional setting (module 12).

Key features of the Psychology course include: ‘Setting the scene’ boxes: These describe relevant, and sometimes surprising, case studies that illustrate points that are made in the main text. ‘From the archives’ boxes: These make reference to key research studies published in academic journals. These bring you into contact with the methods and procedures used by psychologists to test and develop their theories. ‘Have a go’ boxes: These encourage active learning, in which you are more involved and engaged in the learning process. Targeted suggestions for further reading.

The Psychology course has been written especially for NCC Learning by Dr Matthew Smith. Matthew Smith is a former Associate Professor of Psychology at Liverpool Hope University with nearly 20 years’ experience of teaching and research in Psychology.

His work in the media even included a stint as the resident psychologist/parapsychologist on the television show Most Haunted. Elizabeth Ottley is a postgraduate student in Psychology. Please note: that you will need to carry out additional research in order to receive the Diploma upon completion. This aspect has been included in order to improve the learner’s research skills.

    Would recommend them to everyone

I first used NCC Home Learning a few years ago and did not hesitate to study with them again this time. My Psychology course was written in 12 modules with well structured sections and examples to check your own learning before tackling the module assignments. The tutor support system worked really well for me and my assignment feedback was always emailed promptly with encouragement and suggestions. I enjoy distance learning because it fits in with my family and work commitments and NCC offer such a range of courses, there must be something to suit everyone! NCC Home Learning are very easy to work with and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a distance learning course.

    Very enjoyable

I found the course very enjoyable and would recommend studying with NCC. The Psychology level 3 course was very informative and gave a good foundation for further study related to this topic.
The support centre was superb and extremely quick at responding to any questions I had regarding the assignment feedback. Shaun was a great great help if I required any support or had any questions. What I liked in particular about NCC support is that there is always someone in the support centre to talk to for guidance Monday to Friday, unlike many other online study centres who only correspond via email.
I will studying again next year with NCC, this time extending my knowledge with the Criminal Psychology course.
Thanks to you all at NCC support.

Longer tutor support would be helpful

I would like to advance my Psychology on a higher level. Either in work place Psychology or Counselling. The course would be more beneficial if the tutor support was 18 months. Due to running my own large business my private time is limited.

    Dear Caroline Jones
Thank you for your kind words Caroline. Our courses as standard are provided with 12 months tutor support which is sufficient for most of our students. If you wish to purchase additional tutor support you can do so by typing EXT6 for six months tutor support into the website search function. I will however pass on your feedback to our customer support team.

    Kind Regards
