Course Description

The Counselling Children and Young People course aims to provide the learner with the knowledge on how to effectively counsel and support children and young people.

The course covers a range of areas within counselling and will help the learner specifically deal with psychological issues that affect children and young people.

This course will provide the learner with the knowledge and skills required to effectively work with children and young people. The skills gained can then be put to use when working with children and young people in a care or support giving roll.

The learner will work through a number of units in the course, looking at both basic counselling skills and also areas more specific to children and young people such as bullying, child abuse and child development

Previous Knowledge

The good news is that there is no previous knowledge required to complete this course.

However you may wish to study this course as a progression course from the more general Counselling Diploma or our Child Psychology course.

Assessment

Your course will be assessed via tutor marked assignments. You will be require to pass an assignment at the end of all 6 modules. Once you have worked through your course materials and submitted your assignment to your tutor, you will be provided with feedback to aid you in your studies.

If you fail to pass an assignment you are able to resubmit your amended assignment, using the feedback as a guideline to where and how you need to improve your submission.

Awarding Organisation

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement by ABC Awards and a Learner Module Summary (which lists the details of all the modules you have completed as part of your course).

The course has been endorsed under the ABC Awards’ Quality Licence Scheme.

The completion of this course alone does not lead to an Ofqual regulated qualification but may be used as evidence of knowledge and skills towards regulated qualifications in the future. The Module summary can be used as evidence towards Recognition of Prior Learning if you wish to progress your studies in this sector.

To this end, the learning outcomes of the course have been benchmarked at Level 3 against level descriptors published by Ofqual, to indicate the depth of study and level of difficulty involved in successful completion by the learner.
