Course Description

English Language & Literature A Level

Do you need an A Level within 12 months to get into University?

We offer a range of A Levels where we guarantee to prioritise the marking of your coursework so you are fully ready to take your exams in June of each year.

WE DO NOT CHARGE EXTRA FOR THIS SERVICE.

An Advanced Level in English Language and Literature is a perfect qualification for those wishing to acquire knowledge and understanding of the subject to enable them to study at a higher level at university.

This specification is designed to:

  • develop candidates' understanding of English Language and Literature as a combined discipline
  • draw on their experiences at GCSE as well as offering a secure foundation for the study of English beyond A-level
  • develop interest in and enjoyment of independent reading
  • develop personal responses as critics of both literary and non-literary texts

On this course you will study four units:

AS Level

Unit 1 – ELLA 1: Integrated Analysis and Text Production

Section A: One question on literary and stylistic issues (advised to spend 40 minutes)

Section B: One language production task (advised to spend 50 minutes)

  • produce accurate, fluent and coherent written work

Candidates are required to study at least one poetry text, a genre not available at AS level. Candidates must choose one text from List A; they may then either choose one other text from List A or one text from List B.

For information regarding the texts in each list and for more general information, you should go to:

Important Notice

We are not accredited to assess, moderate or examine coursework. In which case, it is candidates’ responsibility to access AQA consortium advice via their examination centres. Moreover, it is candidates’ choice to determine which texts from lists A and B above they shall study and what comparative question they shall work on.

However, we are able to offer study materials for Unit 4, consisting of examples of poetry criticism and analysis, and Tutor Marked Assignments which will help prepare candidates to formulate titles and draft their coursework.

AS +A2 = A level in English Language and Literature. Both AS and A2 level courses and examinations must be successfully completed to gain a full A level

AS Certification 1721

A Level Certification 2721

Previous Knowledge Required

The A-level builds on the course content of GCSE English Language and Literature. Although it is not necessary to have this qualification before undertaking A-level English Language and Literature, in order to meet the demands of the course, it is recommended that candidates do have literary and communication skills equivalent to C or higher at GCSE.

Support

  • The course comes to you as a proper paper-based pack, not as an electronic password
  • You will get full tutor support via email
  • You will receive feedback on your assignments from our experienced tutors
  • You will be given guidance through the Study Guide on the nuts and bolts of studying and submitting assignments
  • Postal assignments cannot be accepted without prior permission from the tutor
  • You must have access to email in order to contact your tutor.

You will have access to a tutor via our student portal who will mark your work and guide you through the course to help you be ready for your examinations. In addition you will be supplied with a comprehensive Study Guide which will help you through the study and assessment process.

Assessment

The course contains a number of assignments which your tutor will mark and give you valuable feedback on. We call these Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs). You need only send the TMAs to your tutor for comment, not the self-assessment exercises which are also part of the course to help you gauge your progress.
