Course Description

This programme has been designed and created to equip students with the required knowledge needed to work in a supervised capacity. This is the ideal course for anyone who currently works or would like to work in a variety of childcare job roles. This programme is the perfect starting point to the formal qualification needed to work within the childcare sector. For those who wish to go on to work in an unsupervised capacity, you will be required to complete the Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification.

The Level 2 programme aims to provide students with all the necessary learning knowledge required to progress on to the Early Years Educator (Level 3) course. This is a suitable programme of study which will equip you with a better understanding of this subject area.

The purpose of this programme is to develop and enhance your knowledge and skills regarding to the children and young people’s workforce and strives to give learners all the necessary knowledge needed to move on to the next level. This course also provides students with a better understanding of the legislation surrounding working within a child care setting.

Students will be required to complete 13 modules, all of which will explore a different aspect regarding this subject area. The Level 2 programme provides an ideal introduction to working in child care occupations and an essential platform to the lengthier and more demanding Level 3 qualification.

Please note: to successfully complete this course, students are required to complete a work placement of at least 50 hours.
As part of this work placement you must first ensure that a member of staff with occupational competence is able to provide supervision and sign the witness testimonies, to prove you have achieved the work based learning outcomes of this course.  

Please note: this programme is not available as a distance learning course at Level 3.

There is no previous knowledge required to enrol on to this programme. This is the ideal programme to start your career in a child care setting.

Assessment

To successfully complete this programme, learners will be required to complete a series of written assignments. Not only this, you will be required to provide evidence of practical skills including observations, witness statements as well as discussion records which can be gathered from your work placement. This will contribute to your portfolio of evidence of learning. Your personal tutor will review, mark and provide you with feedback on your work. Please note: During your placement, your practical aspects will need to be overseen by your nominated workplace supervisor, who will vouch for the tasks you have undertaken.

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Level 2 NCFE certificate of achievement. That means that it is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to Level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Accreditation by NCFE is a guarantee of quality. It means that this learning programme has been scrutinised and approved by an independent panel of experienced educational professionals and is quality audited biannually by NCFE.

NCFE is recognised as an awarding body by the qualification regulators ('regulators') for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The regulators are the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.
