AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting

Course Description

The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is widely recognised as the Gold Standard for accounting technician training. It is valued across the whole of the accounting profession – and is a qualification requirement of many employers. You will often see job ads looking for a “Qualified AAT” or a “Qualified Accounting Technician”.

As well as being a respected qualification in its own right, it can be an invaluable stepping stone for those wishing to progress to the professional level qualifications, and is a cost effective alternative to the traditional graduate route.

What you’ll get on our course programme:

  • A comprehensive range of interactive learning materials and interactive games as well as loads of practice activities and question banks. These are available 24x7 on our on-line virtual learning environment (Moodle). People have different learning styles, audio, visual, kinaesthetic (they like to listen, watch or do). Each element of the programme should hit each of these buttons – don’t forget to use your personal tutor too;
  • A Personalised Study Plan and a Study Support Guide;
  • A tutor help-line via phone or email;
  • We will monitor your progress and contact you on a regular basis to discuss this progress and, if needed, nag!
  • Our team is willing to provide out of office hours support: if you find it difficult to find time to speak to us whilst at work, email us your contact details, the nature of your query and when would be a good time to call (within reason!) and we will endeavour to get back to you.
  • A series of progress tests and mock exams to submit for marking and feedback – essential for both us and you to make sure you are making satisfactory progress;
  • Liaison with us over when and where to sit your AAT computer based exams;
  • There is also a forum on Moodle where you can post study questions for either our tutor team or other learners to answer;
  • A copy of Sage Instant software for use on the Computerised Bookkeeping Unit. Provided you register it with Sage within 30 days of installation, you will get a full licence, which you can continue to use after your course has completed;
  • We have structured the course content on Moodle to guide you through each of your units – effectively an on-line study plan. We have also given you links to the relevant sections of the AAT website to encourage you to make full use of their own free learning resources and practice assessments.
  • The key aspect of Level 2 is “getting” double entry.  Therefore we have produced a lot of interactive elements to help you “get it”. Also lots of practice activities. You’ve also got us – so use the forum, email or phone.

Registration with the AAT

Before you can sit any exam, you need to be registered with the AAT. You will need to do this yourself on-line via the AAT website.  The 2011/12 rates, which are valid until 1st September are:

  • an initial one off registration fee of £36
  • an annual membership fee of £80.

Previous Knowledge Required

No prior accounting knowledge required, but learners will need sufficient numeracy and literacy to work at a level equivalent to a GCSE Grade C in English and Maths.

Support

You will receive a personalised study plan and a study support guide plus tutor help via phone or email.

For this course, our team are willing to provide out of office hours support: if you find it difficult to find time to speak to us whilst at work, email us your contact details, the nature of your query and when would be a good time to call (within reason!) and we will endeavour to get back to you.

Assessment

Exam fees

The CBAs (Computer Based Exams) can be sat at any AAT Centre that accepts external candidates. Advice on where these are can be obtained from us after purchase or directly from the AAT. Exam fees are set by the AAT and are payable directly to the AAT exam centre when booking your CBA. At Level 2 these are set at £33 per exam for 5 exams.

In addition to this the AAT exam centre may charge an administration fee per exam. This is limited to £10 per exam for those wishing to sit their exams at our own centre in Exeter.

Awarding Organisation

AAT are the UK’s leading qualification and membership body for accounting staff.  They work across the globe with around 125,000 members in more than 90 countries. Their members are represented at every level of the finance and accounting world, including students, people already working in accountancy and self-employed business owners.
