This Understanding Autism Level 2 Certificate QCF provides an introduction to autism and the principles of supporting individuals on the autistic spectrum.

After providing a general introduction to the autistic spectrum, the course covers using person-centred approaches and supporting positive communication. Sensory processing, perception and cognition are then discussed, including how autism can affect these processes.

Finally the course concludes by covering supporting positive behaviour and how to support individuals with autism to live a healthy, happy and fulfilled life.

This course is ideal for learners who want to develop awareness and understanding of autism and know how to support individuals with the condition. This qualification is ideal for learners who support individuals with autism in a variety of settings, including health, social care, entertainment, leisure, nursing, education, training and the public sector. It consists of six mandatory units:

1. Introduction to autism
2. Using a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism
3. Communication and social interaction in individuals with autism
4. Sensory processing, perception and cognition in individuals with autism
5. Supporting positive behaviour in individuals with autism
6. Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives 

To achieve the qualification, the learner must achieve all 18 credits from all six units.

Previous Knowledge Required

There is no previous knowledge or certification required to enrol onto the Understanding Autism Level 2 Certificate QCF course. This course is available to all learners who are looking to gain a qualification in Autism by undertaking a home study programme.

Learners are free to enrol on this course at any time of year and have a period of 12 months tutor support to complete their studies. 

Although not a requirement, you may wish to study this course alongside another related course such as Understanding ADHD or OCD Awareness to gain a greater understanding of issues which can affect child development. If you do chose to study this course as a bundle, you are entitled to receive a discount of £80 from the total cost!

Assessment

At the end of each unit there will be a tutor marked assignment to complete in order to assess your studies. This assignment will require you to evidence the knowledge you have gained from the Autism Awareness course and display an understanding of the underpinning knowledge to your tutor. 

Upon successful completion of the 18 credits, learners will receive a certificate of achievement from the awarding organisation, NCFE.

Awarding Organisation

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Level 2 NCFE certificate of achievement. That means that it is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to Level 2 on the Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. 

Accreditation by NCFE is a guarantee of quality. It means that this learning programme has been scrutinised and approved by an independent panel of experienced educational professionals and is quality audited by NCFE. 

NCFE is recognised as an awarding organisation by the qualification regulators ('regulators') for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
