Course Description

NCC has produced this workbook for the Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools QCF. You may well be setting out to work or are already working in school as a teaching assistant.

This workbook has been written for people who are working in any type of educational setting, whether this is primary, middle, or secondary school.

You may find yourself referred to under the general title of 'teaching assistant' within your school, but you may also be called a classroom assistant, school assistant, individual support assistant, special needs assistant, or learning support assistant.

Please Note: a work placement is required to complete this course.
As part of this work placement you must first ensure that a member of staff with occupational competence is able to provide supervision and sign the witness testimonies, to prove you have achieved the work based learning outcomes of this course.

These different job titles have come into effect due to the different types of work which assistants are required to do within the classroom.  These reflect the job roles which are now present in schools for learning support staff.  As you work towards this qualification, you will be developing your skills and expertise in a number of areas, and you will need to think about how the theory fits in with your experiences in the classroom.  As you gain experience and expertise in your work with children and young people, you may also find it a useful reference.

To be awarded the TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, learners must achieve a total of 30 credits, made up of 24 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 3 credits from Option Group 1 and 3 credits from Option Group 2.

You therefore need to complete all the units within this programme of study (including the Optional Group 1 and 2 units).

    Convenient way to study

I am nearing completion of the Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools level 2 course. I chose this course at first as I could not attend on the day my local college offered the course but I'm so glad I did.

Workmates who have attended college have looked at the notes supplied buy NCC and commented that they were much better than those they received at college and they felt they were much easier to understand.

I also love the fact you can study at your own convenience, with a family I can take time off if I need to and study more when I have more time. Will definitely go on to do the level 3 course with NCC.

The staff are friendly and approachable and provide constructive comments when assessing the work. My assessments usually take 10 days to be marked but queries have been answered on the same day. I have already recommended NCC to others and will continue to do so in the future.

    Excellent way to learn

Just coming to the end of my 'supporting teaching and learning' level 2 course. When I first received my pack, I was very overwhelmed by all the paperwork but on closer inspection I saw how easy it was to follow.

Having split my pack down into folders (one with assessment criteria in and one with learning information in) it made it easier to see what I had to do. I would recommend this company to everyone, in fact I have (somebody I know was looking to do the same course). Quick response to e mails and coursework marked quickly too. Well done NCC Home Learning, I cannot thank you enough.

Would recommend this course to everyone I know

I enjoyed this course. The tutor was extremely good at marking my work and giving me positive feedback. Even when I had to re-submit some of my work I had clear understanding on where I went wrong.

Each unit was encouraged with praise and I have learnt alot. I felt great satisfaction and would recommend this course to everyone I know and if possible would ask them to ask for juliette taylor as their tutor.

    Tutor was very helpful

I found NCC through the internet search and I read reviews from people who have used them in the past and I enrolled on the level 2 supporting teaching and learning in schools. I received all of my course information through the post which was very informative and I found I could do this at ease during my busy lifestyle of being a mum and working within school. My tutor juliette Taylor was very helpful when marking my work with helpful feedback. I always received my work back straight away after marking. If I had any problems I got intouch with Sally Swift who was in support and she was very efficient when dealing with any problems that I had. NCC have now given me the opportunity to move up in my school should a job come available.

I would definitely recommend NCC to anyone who wishes to study and do a course. All the information and course work you receive gives you 100% material to complete the course and learn.

    Thank you juliette and Sally

A good way to learn after many years out of school/college

I have thoroughly enjoyed this course and it was a good way to learn after many years out of school / college. I could fit it in around my jobs, family and life in general. I will take a few months (to give back time to my husband and children) and then I hope to do another course.
