In 1975 they changed their name to The Ecology Party, and changed again in 1985 to the Green Party.<\/p>\n<p>Until 2008, the party did not hold elections to decide who would be the leader, favouring principal speakers. The first elected leader in 2008 was Caroline Lucas, who managed to gain the party\u2019s first ever seat in the House of Commons, as MP for Brighton Pavilion<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, she decided not to stand for leader in the next election.<br \/>\nThe current leader of the Green Party, Natalie Bennett, was elected in September 2012.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leader \u2013 Natalie Bennett<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Natalie Bennett has been the Leader of the Green Party since 2012, when she replaced the first elected leader of the party. She was born in Sydney, Australia, and attended the University of Sydney to gain a degree in Agricultural Science, and the University of New England to read Asian Studies. She then came over to England to complete a Masters in Mass Communication from the University of Leicester.
