A report from The Commission on Improving Dignity in Care for Older People has raised concerns over the way hospitals and care homes across the UK are treating the elderly .<\/p>\n
More than 40 organisations that work with the elderly, including doctors, nurses and carers, have contributed to the report, which suggests that Britain is \u201cfailing the elderly\u201d.<\/p>\n
One of the campaigners for the elderly, broadcaster Esther Rantzen, who is currently working towards launching a new helpline specifically for the elderly called Silverline, said: \u201cIt is really important we stop thinking of older people as a collection of disabilities and series of problems and instead think of them as having real value.\u201d<\/p>\n
The commission has set out a proposal for how both the NHS and social care sector can tackle this issue and insists that a \u201cmajor cultural shift\u201d is necessary covering the training and regulation of care workers and medical staff in relation to Dignity in Care.<\/p>\n
