We are well underway with the 2014 wedding season, with couples tying the knot at a variety of venues up and down the country. There are a number of reasons why a bride may opt to organise a wedding rather than bringing in the help of a wedding planner. Whether it be keeping down the cost, or simply not trusting anyone else to organise your special day, the fact still remains you will have a monumental list of tasks to address. For many the main problem is having an understanding of everything that is available to you as well as finding the right options for your wedding.

The NCC Plan your own Wedding Course delves deep into the aspects that will contribute to your dream wedding. Venue, photography, ceremony and catering are all covered in this course as well as a module looking at creating your own personal task list and action plan. The general areas to be covered initially in your action plan are items such as the overall wedding budget, insurances, possible dates, themes, numbers, ceremony style, venues and caterers.

Planning a wedding can be a huge stress and NCC aim to provide you with sufficient knowledge to feel comfortable enough to plan your wedding with confidence and style.

Childcare as a career can take many forms. Au pair, nursery worker, babysitter and maternity nurse all come under the broader category of childcare. The day to day duties will vary based on the specific role chosen, but there are a number of common features that can be identified as common within the industry.

Child Development and Interaction

Interacting with children on a professional basis can be quite different from caring for your own children. Not only may you be faced with caring for multiple children at the same time, but also each of their personalities and traits will be different, meaning adaptability is essential for this role. There are a number of key features involved in providing high quality childcare, including child development and developmental needs, as well as safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. There are a number of subjects transferrable to all areas of childcare that as a professional you are likely to need an understanding of which include:

• The main development of a child from birth to 8 years
• Social, economic and environmental factors affecting development
• Genetic and hereditary factors affecting development
• Children’s overall developmental needs
• Transitions influenced by age
• Inclusion within child-minding
• Policies to meet diversity within the child-minding sector

Rewarding Work

The motivation for the majority of individuals pursuing a career in childcare is the enjoyment received from working with children. The rewards are obvious, helping children to develop during some of the most important years of their life. Children develop extremely quickly between birth and age 8 and a large amount of skills are acquired during this time. Having the expertise to assist this development and witness the child positively respond to your techniques on a daily basis makes this career quite unique.

Building Relationships

It is important to remember that as a childcare professional, a huge amount of trust has been invested in you from the child’s parents. Building relationships with both the child and parent is of equal importance. There are a number of traits that you need to develop the trust of your employers including maturity, honesty and consistency, all of which will create a desirable relationship. It is in the best interest of you as a professional to build these relationships as they then automatically manifest into positive recommendations, which for the child-minder is the Holy Grail.

If you would like to pursue a career in childcare, NCC Home Learning offer a multitude of options for online childcare courses for everyone from complete beginners to experienced professionals.

We have previously reported our very own course tutor and author, Gloria Armistead has been awarded with an MBE. The day was documented by the palace, take a look below.

The St. Helens based learning provider, NCC Home Learning has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2014 E3 Business Awards, which will be held at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton on 18th September.

The company, with more than 15 years of experience in providing learning solutions to individuals, and who continually strive to make the option of further education accessible to everyone, was selected from amongst hundreds of nominees across the North West to become one of the four finalists for the prestigious Skills, Education & Training Award.

Reacting to the announcement, the company’s MD, Tony Smith said: “At NCC we are extremely proud to have been recognised as a finalist for an award at the forthcoming E3 Business Awards in the category of Skills, Education and Training. As a small business, the recognition as a finalist for this prestigious award acknowledges the hard work and commitment on behalf of the whole team.”

Speaking on behalf of 1 Events Media, which has developed and organised the awards, Managing Director Mubarak Chati said: “Last year marked the launch of the E3 Awards and we were very impressed then by the number and calibre of the nominees, but this year, we’ve seen even more. Perhaps it’s testament to a recovering economy or just to the relentless ‘can do’ spirit that characterises the North West, but whatever the reason, the quality of entrants has been superb.

“We’ve had hundreds of nominations, and they’ve come from right across the region: Manchester to Merseyside, Cumbria to Cheshire. It’s astonishing to witness the effort and ingenuity of so many individuals and organisations because so much commendable work has clearly been done. In compiling the shortlist, the Nominations Panel certainly had an unenviable task and for NCC Home Learning to have secured a place in the final is an achievement of which it should be very proud.”

As any self-respecting Game of Thrones fan will already know, the climax of season 4 will be aired on Sky Atlantic tonight. The build up has been incredible, with twists at every opportunity and no character safe from meeting an unsavoury end. In anticipation we thought we would take a look at the most suitable home learning courses for some GOT fan favourites.

Name: Joffrey Baratheon

Course: Relationship and Couples Counselling Diploma

King Joffrey is widely hated and for very good reason. From ordering the execution of Ned Stark or his constant demeaning of Tyrion, there are a multitude of reasons why it is impossible not to have an immense feeling of hatred towards Joffrey. Sansa Stark suffered vast amounts of torment at the hands of Joffrey and his sinister nature towards her is what many saw as his worst trait. The course features a module on boundaries and ethics in a relationship, which could have been a real eye opener.

NAME: Daenerys Targaryen

COURSE: Human Resource Management DIPLOMA

You might say that Daenerys already has an incredibly successful management style and has managed her resources admirably. Although with an army of 8000 unsullied in tow, there is some serious administration duties to uphold. I would guess that the unsullied are fairly easy to work with and would not make many employee demands. I suppose their previous employment under Kraznys mo Nakloz has been a somewhat frightening induction into the workplace. One of the modules focuses around employee retention and commitment, this may be useful for running a voluntary army of 8000 soldiers.

NAME: Jon snow

COURSE: Dog Grooming DIPLOMA

Jon Snow has become a huge fan favourite and his unbreakable bond with his beloved Ghost makes him all the more endearing. Although living on the wall can be quite stressful, Jon may have some extra time on his hands when the wildlings aren’t attacking. Ghost was released on the wildling’s and may have some undesirable stains in his beautiful white coat. Jon could learn the best techniques for creating the perfect shiny coat.

The first mention of Forensic Linguistics was by Swedish language expert Jan Swartvik in 1968. Swartvik coined the term for a study he was conducting related to Timothy John Evans, who had been executed for the murder of his wife and baby daughter in the 1950’s. Swartvik identified a number of stylistic differences in statements made and this would raise questions regarding their authorship.

The history of forensic linguistics may be much older than 1968, with reference to legal contexts going as far back as the Judgement of Soloman in the Bible. The addition of forensic linguistics as a brand of applied linguistics is a recent development. The definition has stemmed from this and is now, “forensic linguistics, legal linguistics, or language and the law, can be defined as the application of linguistic knowledge, methods and insights to the forensic context of law, language, crime investigation, trial and judicial procedure”

The course aims to explore the discipline of forensic linguistics and give the student a solid overall understanding of the subject.
