Course Description 

Teaching Assistant Qualification Course Teaching Assistants provide invaluable support to teachers and help achieve positive learning outcomes. Teaching assistants usually work with small groups or with individual children. Their duties vary depending on the particular job and the age of the children.

The ABC Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Assistants is a qualification listed on the National Qualifications Framework and is an approved qualification for employment as a classroom assistant. The course is awarded by the awarding body ABC, which is also recognised by the UK Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.

Students entering for this award must complete the FOUR mandatory units as listed below plus three optional units of their choice. In addition they must complete a work placement under the supervision of a qualified teacher.

This placement must consist of at least 60 hours. Candidates will be required to confirm their placement and complete a mentor statement signed by their workplace supervisor. Many of the assessments for the ABC qualification rely upon informal observation by the mentor/supervisor and consequently assignments will also need to be accompanied by a mentor signature.

Your Teaching Assistant pack will include a studyguide, comprehensive study notes for each element of the course, self-assessment activities, assignments, full 12 month tutor support, assignment marking and feedback from your tutor and accreditation.

Previous Knowledge Required

The good news is that no prior learning knowledge or experience is essential to take this course. This course is openly available to anyone wishing to learn more about becoming a Teaching Assistant and would like to take part in a highly rewarding home study course.

You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with full tutor support.

Support

You will receive the course manual, assignments and study guide plus tutor support by mail and email. Our student support team are also available for any other queries that you may have whilst completing your course. You can be assured that unlimited support is available for your home study course, so there is no need to struggle or feel isolated during your studies.

Assessment

The Teaching Assistant qualification is assessed by a series of written assignments which are submitted and marked by your tutor. There is also a multi-choice end test to complete.

The ABC Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Assistants can be awarded for completing the four MANDATORY units listed below, plus THREE OPTIONAL units, together with an in-school placement of at least 60 hours. The placement for the ABC qualification will require students to undertake a minimum of 60 hours practice in-school, under the guidance and supervision of a qualified teacher. Confirmation of placement will be required in order to gain this qualification.

Awarding Body

The Teaching Assistant qualification is fully accredited by the National Awarding Body, ABC Awards. ABC Awards was formally established in 1998 and was one of the first vocational awarding bodies to be approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority for inclusion in the National Qualifications Framework.
