Course Description
The Diploma in Mediation programme has also now been developed into an audio format so students can continue to study while on the move.
Helping others to help themselves, assisting them with their communication and relationships; working with people to develop their powers of negotiating, achieving resolutions where everyone wins, are just a few examples of what a skilled and practiced mediator can help their clients achieve. In this course you will learn how to communicate effectively with everyone you meet.
You will learn to recognise types of body language, gestures and other non verbal forms of communication. These skills will be invaluable in your everyday relationships, including personal relationships, those at work, interviews, public speaking and even negotiating with teenagers!
You will see how the art of 'mirroring' will help others relax and feel at ease in your company. This, in itself, can be an excellent aid to communication. You will learn the importance of positive spoken language and how to change 'negative' situations into more positive ones. Mediators do not 'tell' others what they should do. They do not give advice but help their clients explore the possibilities of their situation so that they are able to achieve a resolution that is right for them.
Many people come to mediation having been in conflict for some time. The issues become complicated and often exaggerated, so that the individuals concerned can see no way out. Mediation can help them focus on the important issues at hand and unravel the complexities that have built up. Mediators begin by building rapport and helping the clients to feel that they are in a safe and secure environment, so that they can talk openly and freely.
The Diploma in Mediation programme has also now been developed into an audio format so students can continue to study while on the move. Whether you are on holiday or commuting to work, you will be able to take this course with you!
The material will cover exactly the same topics covered in the course book but is read out aloud. This enables you to add the material to your iPod, to convert onto a CD and listen in the car or to be placed on any MP3 player.

What our students say: "I have very little time to study and read of late, so a distance learning course was ideal for me. My first choice however would have been a course where face to face interaction was possible for various reasons. This is why I chose this particular course because the content of the modules could counteract the lack of interaction. With this in mind, I can honestly say that I am pleased with my choice as I have learnt more than I expected through being encouraged to do more research into different forms of mediation.
I am no stranger to distance learning and I have never made much use of the allocated tutors. Somehow I didn't stand still and realise the importance of a good tutor on a short distance course like this one. Neither was I ready for the impact of my tutor's words of encouragement and confidence in me as a new mediator. The feedback on assignments opened my eyes to my own capabilities in terms of being mature and ready enough for such a position.
I believe that my tutor was in tune with my needs and offered a qualitative feedback that nurturing and motivating towards further achievement and expression. For this I am very grateful and am aware that this quality in tutoring is hard to come by these days. Thank you. Experience and wisdom are priceless."
