Domestic Animal Care


This Domestic Animal Care course covers the following modules.  All pet owners are required by law to be responsible for the welfare of their pets.  This course does not only outline the do's and don'ts of pet care, but is also a fascinating course for any pet owner.

Module 1: A New Puppy

  • Socialisation and habitualisation
  • Prophylactic treatments
  • Fleas
  • Neutering
  • Oral health

Module 2: A New Kitten

  • Choosing a kitten
  • Feeding a kitten
  • Socialisation and habitualisation
  • Prophylactic treatments
  • Ticks
  • Neutering
  • Oral health

Module 3: Adult Nutrition

  • Food storage
  • Non-energy producing nutrients
  • Vitamins
  • Differing nutritional needs
  • Common dog and cat foods

Module 4: Basic Training and Understanding Basic Behaviour

  • House training
  • Body language and psychology of the cat and dog
  • Basic training
  • Punishment
  • Common behavioural problems

Module 5: Owners' Responsibilities

  • Legislation

  • The five freedoms

Support

The course is designed for study by distance learning at home or at work. Students receive a course manual, assignments and study guide plus tutor support by mail or email. You can start at any time and plan your studies over a period of up to one year from the time of registration.

 

Assessment

The Domestic Animal Care course assessment takes the form of a series of written assignments, which are submitted and marked by your tutor. There is no external examination required.

Awarding Organisation

This course has been accredited under NCFE IIQ Licence by Open Study College which has been approved as an NCFE Investing in Quality (IIQ) centre to give formal recognition to courses. At the end of this course successful learners will be awarded a certificate of achievement by NCFE. The training courses have been designed specifically to meet the needs of learners who prefer to study from home. The course measurable learning outcomes have been benchmarked at Level 3 (using Ofqual's Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) level descriptors) to allow you to consider the depth of study, difficulty, and level of achievement involved.
