The course also prepares students for the GOAL qualification Level 3 Child Care Learning and Development. Students planning to run a nursery or child care facility are required to obtain such a recognised qualification and this home study course meets that requirement.
Assessment
Each element is followed by a written assignment, which is submitted and marked by your tutor. Upon successful completion of the five assignments you will be eligible for the OCN Diploma. Please note that students’ assessments are moderated three times per year by OCN. Submission dates and deadlines for moderation are fully detailed in the student study pack.
Assessment for the GOAL qualification is through one multi-choice end-test per unit (five in total). These must be arranged by the student at a local GOAL examination centre due to this being a home study course, and at the student’s own cost. Full details of the GOAL assessment procedure are contained in the student study pack.
This qualification can also provide evidence of underpinning knowledge towards the achievement of the Goal Level 3 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Children’s Care, Learning and Development.

The OCN Diploma is gained through completing the five tutor marked assignments which are included in your study pack. Once we receive your completed registration form you will automatically be registered with OCN for this award.
Gaining the Diploma requires students to meet the assessment criteria in each of the five assignments. Assignments can be completed and submitted at any time suitable to you.
Once you have completed your five assignments, the OCN Awarding Body will be informed and your diploma requested. OCN appoint a moderator to ensure that the assessment criteria have been met. Moderation date deadline for receipt of final assignments:
May - 30th April
September - 31st August

On completion of the final assignment, students will however receive a letter confirming their completion and this can be used as evidence when seeking employment, pending receipt of your Diploma.
OPTIONAL GOAL Level 3 Qualification (No 100/5613/0)
Students wishing to obtain this qualification must independently arrange to sit the examinations at a GOAL examination centre. Details of this process are described below.
To find a centre please contact the EDI customer service team on 08707 202 909 or email customerservice@ediplc.com and an advisor will conduct a centre search for you. This information can be given verbally over the phone.
For certain child care occupations (primarily managers and owners of nurseries and child care facilities), OFSTED require a Level 3 qualification listed by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. This GOAL qualification meets this requirement.
The qualification is undertaken by completing five examinations (multi-choice style tests) at a GOAL examinations centre. Many schools and colleges in the UK are GOAL centres, and outside of the UK the qualification is branded as LCCI Examinations.
Each of the five units of the GOAL qualification is examined through a multi-choice test comprising 30 questions. Test questions are based solely on the course syllabus and do not require any additional information.
The tests can be paper based and sat at fixed dates and times determined by the awarding body. Alternatively some test centres have access to on-line tests which can be sat at anytime by agreement with the test centre.
Fees for registration for this qualification are currently £45 but centres will make an additional charge for administration of the tests.
GOAL have over 1000 registered test centres in the UK and many LCCI exams centre around the world.
