28/01/2010
The 2009 Sloan International Survey of Online Learning indicated that the number of people enrolling on these education courses has surged by 17 per cent within the last 12 months.
According to the data, which incorporates over 2,500 colleges and universities across the country, around 4.6 million students were enrolled in at least one online course during the autumn of 2008.
Co-author of the study Jeff Seaman, who is also the co-director of the Babson Survey Research Group at Babson College, said: "Online enrolments […] show no signs of slowing. More than one out of four college and university students now take at least one course online."
