Course Description

NCC Home Learning are delighted to be able to offer students the opportunity to enrol onto the Access to HE Diploma and will be offering course titles in our particular area of expertise - Health and Social Care. Students are required to choose a combination of subjects including 1 Level 2 course and 2 Level 3 courses to suit their area of interest and study at home at their own pace.  The course by its very nature will be challenging but there will be plenty of support by experienced tutors to ensure students achieve.

Students will also be required to complete a mandatory HE Toolkit and mandatory Study Techniques in order to complete the Diploma.

CREDIT VALUE 12 CREDITS contributing to the Access to HE Diploma pathway - Introduction to Equality and Diversity.

RATIONALE

The Access to HE Diploma is aimed at anyone who would like to progress to University but does not have the relevant qualifications to enter.  Usually these are people who have had a break in education and would like to return and achieve a qualification. 

The purpose of this subject syllabus is to provide such learners, with an opportunity to study the principles and applications of Equality and Diversity at Level 2 with sufficient focus and detail to develop the transferable skills, knowledge and understanding necessary for progression towards related programmes at a higher level and /or Higher Education.

The award of an Ascentis Access to HE Diploma is subject to satisfactory completion of all the requirements set out in the rules of combination for the named Access to HE Diploma.  Satisfactory completion of this subject results in the award of 12 credits at Level 2 of the Access to HE Diploma.

TARGET GROUP

Access to HE courses should be targeted at those learners who have the ability to benefit from the course and progress to HE but who have previously not had the opportunity to do so and have few, if any, prior qualifications.  This particular programme is designed for such learners with a particular interest in Equality and Diversity who wish to progress to higher levels of learning in a similar or related area.

INTENDED PROGRESSION

This Level 2 subject is intended for inclusion in the following Full QAA Access to HE Diploma Pathways:

  • Health and Social Care Professions.

AIMS

  • To provide a foundation of basic academic skills in Equality and Diversity at an introductory level as the basis for a range of related progression options
  • To introduce learners to knowledge and understanding of the subject
  • To encourage the learner to apply basic concepts appropriately
  • To promote the use of skills and techniques related to Equality and Diversity

OBJECTIVES

The objectives derive from the above aims

  • To encourage directed and independent learning / key skills in an effective, academic context for purposes of personal development and progression
  • To introduce learners to the main characteristics of Equality and Diversity
  • To make learners aware of the opportunities for individual research in an area of individual interest related to Equality and Diversity
  • To promote the development of presentation skills appropriate to the discipline

 

Previous Knowledge Required

The good news is that no prior learning knowledge or experience is essential to take this course. This course is openly available to anyone wishing to progress in to Higher Education and do not have the relevant credits in order to do so.

 

Support

The course by its very nature will be challenging but there will be plenty of support by experienced tutors to ensure students achieve.

 

Assessment

Assessment of Unit 1 is carried out via the Assessment Workbook provided with the course.
Assessment of Unit 2 is carried out by an Independent Assignment of approximately 1000 words in length.

  • Module 1 Explore what is meant by equality and diversity
  • Module 2 Explore what is meant by stereotyping and discrimination
  • Module 3 Explore people’s rights and responsibilities
  • Unit 2 Equality & Diversity Independent Assignment (3 credits)

Ascentis is a Qualifications & Curriculum Authority (QCA) approved national awarding body that designs user-friendly qualifications and supports these with the highest possible standard of customer service. Ascentis is therefore able to offer a comprehensive ladder of opportunities to centres and their learners, starting at Pre-Entry programmes and progressing to QAA-recognised Access to HE qualifications or professional Further Education Teaching Certificates.
